Who We Serve

The Summerlin Chess Club welcomes middle and high school students from historically underserved communities, including those who may have limited access to enrichment programs, transportation, or structured after school activities. Our goal is to create a supportive, low pressure environment where every student feels welcome and valued.

For Intermediate & Advanced Players

Experienced players are invited to join us as peer mentors. Volunteers help teach tactics, openings, and endgames — and serve as role models for younger students.

Transportation & Logistics

Transportation should never be a barrier. We provide bus fare reimbursement or free rides from screened volunteers to ensure reliable access for all participants.

Founder’s Message

  • I started the Summerlin Chess Club to create a space where students could learn, connect, and challenge themselves — regardless of their background or access to extracurricular programs. Chess has always been a source of focus and community for me, and I wanted to share that experience with students who might not otherwise have the opportunity.
In addition to leading this club, I also founded the Society for Awareness of Neglected Diseases (SAND), a student led nonprofit focused on global health education. Both initiatives reflect my commitment to expanding access, building community, and supporting students who face structural or resource related barriers.
I’m grateful to every student, volunteer, and family who has helped build this community. Whether you’re brand new to chess or already experienced, I hope you’ll join us.
